First and foremost, thanks Shirley for keeping everyone updated. And thank all of you for the many thoughts and prayers. I am home and resting, needed to after last night's final sleep study…….bummer.
As Shirley told you, I did go to my Cardio for a check up on Tues the 27 and the next thing I know they are talking about admitting me to the hospital. Took me by wheelchair to the main lobby (in the next building) where they got me registered as "An Observer Outpatient). After that I went to another building (all through a lot of corridors) in the wheelchair with Bob following. We get to the Towers 4 Building and I thought I might be in a luxury hotel. Very nice private rooms.
They started doing all the paper work and then all the "fun" began. I have seen 5 different specialists since then. They ordered a right heart cath, a colonoscopy, endroscopothy, a MRI on my leg, and more blood work than I even thought I had enough blood for.
The heart cath did show what damages have been done to the lungs and the pulmonary doctors are taking care of that. The scopes came out good thank goodness. The MRI to confirm the cellulites and the infectious doctor was in charge of that. They also did testing for both flu's since my grandson had the H1N1. They were negative.
Like many of you my veins are so small that they have a hard time getting IV's to stay very long. I ended up having 8 of them in all for the time I was there besides all the blood work. They had to check my Protime daily and sometimes it was not very good, had me on IV's for that as well. I go back to the doctor tomorrow to have it rechecked after being off of my Wafarin for a couple of days. My arms look like someone took a baseball bat to them.
They ended up not doing any surgery on my leg because they didn't want more infection to develop. I kept it elevated the majority of the time (potty breaks excluded). They decided to put hot wraps on the place and it has helped take the swelling down, still a little red but I am on antibiotics at home now.
The Pulmonary doctor's started me on a medication in the hospital and it really seems like it may help with my breathing. Bob went to drugstore to fill my prescriptions and this one they said the insurance would not pay for, cost $1,000 a month! I called the doctor's office to see if there was anything else they could use and they said check with the insurance to see what they would pay for……..The insurance lady said they would pay for the original even if Medicare would not pay on it and to have the drugstore call them back. I called the drugstore, good friend of ours is the druggist, and after I told them what I was told he said he would call me right back. He did and said that my insurance would cover it and all I would have to pay was my co-pay of $25, he couldn't believe it himself but said he was ordering it and would be here tomorrow.
Thanks a million for the prayers and thoughts. I will try getting on and answering some of your post tomorrow.
