I got the letter from SSDI saying it was partially favorable. This means that Judge Judy the ALJ (administrative law judge) approved my disability, but only from January 29 08 my Fiftieth birthday. My attorney kept pushing for December 04 when I first filed for SSDI.
She was dead set on that, and thats exactly what she did. So now I have to wait until May or June of next year to be eligible for Medicare. I will have to go on Medicaid to help me medically until that time. This also means that I am cheated out of at least $30K or 40K of retro money. After the law firm takes their cut, we might see about 18K. I will have to ask them if this can be appealed.
So now I have to wait for a letter from them stating my benefits, and how much retro, and when will the government wheel start turning, and giving me my monthly benefits. I think I will go to the SS office so I can give them my bank info for direct deposit.
Don't get me wrong, I am jumping with joy (Edie too) that it finally happened after 5 and a half years of fighting. Now I can contribute to our household.
Now Edie will be 65 in December and we got her signed up for Part A and B. Also they will be deducting $97.50 from her monthly benefits. We signed her up with Medicaid and Part D, and I am sure that Medicaid will be her secondary insurance to pick up the tab for the 20% of Part A and B which is 80/20 and the $97.50.
I am thrilled that Edie now has hospitalization, ER, and Drug coverage. Meanwhile I can help Edie decide which is best, and I will have the knowledge of Medicare when I sign up next May.
When I went to Dept of Human Services to ask for Medicaid I was told that I am not eligible until SSDI sends me an approval letter. I will not be able to go to my Pain Doctor because they only take Medicare. My doctor and Meds for pain is a monthly pain.
If any of you out there have been approved, can you remember how long it took to finally recieve payments?
Yours Truly,
Don
